We’re talking 10.
And not just any 10—ten years of
consistency, impact, and showing up for
the community. In a world where
moments come and go, lasting a decade
doing something meaningful is no small
feat—it’s a statement.
That’s why HoodMedia is sending a
major salute to Queens’ own Haron
Hargrave, better known as “H2O,” the
force behind the Ballin’ 4 Peace
Celebrity Basketball Game.
What started
in 2016 as a vision rooted in unity has
grown into a staple event—one that
brings energy, purpose, and excitement
to people of all ages year after year.
Hargrave’s story doesn’t follow the
typical blueprint, and that’s what makes
it powerful. Introduced to basketball by
his mother, he only played one year at
the high school level—but that was
enough to open doors. His talent carried
him to the Division I level at Sacramento
State and even took him overseas. Still,
it wasn’t just the organized game that
shaped him—it was the grit, the passion,
and the respect earned on the blacktop
that gave birth to the name “H2O.”
But this isn’t just about basketball—it’s
about purpose. Ballin’ 4 Peace isn’t just
an event, it’s a movement. It’s about
bringing communities together, creating
safe spaces, and using the culture to
inspire something bigger than the game.
Ten years later, it’s still going strong. Still
growing. Still giving people something to
look forward to.And that kind of longevity That’s earned..
