HIs name is Derrick Harris who at on point and time was an official producer for the legendary rap group The Wu-Tang Clan. According to reports from myclallamcounty.com Mr. Harris was beaten and arrested in his home in a 2011 arrest for accusations of a sexual assault.
Fortunately for Harris, a bunch of his charges he was acquitted in the year 2015 and the remainder of the charges were completely dropped in the year 2020. However, in the midst of it all he has lost 4 years of his life due to a wrongful arrest. According to the reports, it was a female aquaintence of that went to a balcony from Harris’s apartment and screamed for help, by the time he could turn around, there were police officers putting him in hand cuffs and beating him up without asking any questions or trying to deescalate the situation according to the lawsuit. Also, during Harris’s incarceration he suffered a fractured skull according to the suit.
All of this mass incarceration and targets on the backs of black men has been going on for forever! question is, if you’re arresting the wrong people what exactly the plan? This case is very similar to the Kalief Browder case where he was stuck on Rikers Island for 3 years without a trial for something as small as book bag that he was alleged of stealing that turned out to not be true and not only did Kalief have the worst 3 years of his life, he ended up committing suicide due to phycological issues that stemmed from his incarceration.
The tactics that New York City, or any jail system is designed to break someone who committed a crime but the problem with the system is is that they’re doing it to the wrong people.. to innocent people. Civil Rights Attorney Ben Crump has been all over the case and the lawsuits also lists the officers who arrested Harris Former D.A. Cyrus Vance Jr. and Carolina Holderness and former deputy chief for the special victims bureau at the District Attorney’s office.
